CHOCOLATE OATS.

There is absolutely nothing better than having a healthy bowl of oats together with the deliciousness of chocolate for breakfast. For all you fellow chocolate-lovers out there I’m sure you’d also like to start your day with this simple comfy chocolatey oats bowl.

For most of the oatmeals that I make I like to use old fashioned oats as I believe that the less food is processed the healthier it is. Hence you rarely see me eating instant oats. Also the old fashioned ones leave me with a more satisfying feeling until lunch than the instant ones. It may take a minute of 5 more in the morning to prepare, but trust me: it’s all worth it because the flavour is much richer and it has a better bite than instant oats also.

CHOCOLATE OATS.
1/2 cup of oats (I like to use old fashioned oats from Smaakt)
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of water
1 tsp heaped Dutch cacao (unsweetened: Droste e.g.)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
drizzle of honey
1 tsp of flaxseeds
optional: protein powder (I like to use vanilla-flavoured lean protein)
toppings: fruits and nuts

All ingredients, except for flaxseeds, protein and toppings, to be warmed up in a sauce pan for as long as the type of your chosen oats requires. I leave out the honey whenever I use the flavoured protein as sweetener.

While your oats are warming up add in flaxseeds, and protein if used, in your serving bowl as base of your oats. Once your oats are ready mix with the base you just prepared your bowl with and add toppings to your liking.

FRUIT TOPPINGS – strawberries, raspberries, bananas, and/or kiwis e.g.
NUT TOPPINGS – almonds and/or walnuts e.g.

Enjoy! xoSam
